Before you go to Pompeii, read this first.
Most people walk right past the best parts. These are 5 you won’t.
1. The stepping stones aren’t random
Most people walk right over them without noticing.
They look like uneven blocks dropped into the street.
They’re not.
The road dips slightly toward the center. In rain—or worse—it would fill with water, mud, and waste. There was no underground sewer system carrying it all away. It ran through the streets.
The stones rise just above that level.
You step up onto them.
Then across.
Then down again.
Cart wheels were spaced to pass between them. You can still see the grooves worn into the stone.
It’s quiet now.
But this was movement—people crossing, carts rolling, water and waste moving past your feet.
Most people walk past this without thinking.
There are 4 more like it.
Get the rest before you go.
